My current sketchbook page

This page is just a kind of doodleart that I’m exploring, along with working with alcohol markers and trying to understand how I can best work with them.

All these ‘doodles’ turned out kind of organic in a kind of mechanical way, possibly. I’ll be turning my attention to them again this evening.

Template Thursyay!

It’s that time of the week again! Template Thursyay is here once more! Yay indeed!

This week it’s a mandala design. I love mandalas and like to put my own twist and style on them. This one is no exception. Typically ‘Angela’ or ‘Entangled’ in feel.

The template is available to members of Angela Porter’s Colouring Book Fans Facebook group.

Motif Monday – Flower Motifs #1

Keep the alliterative theme going; today is #MotifMonday! Also, happy Valentine’s Day to you all too.

A motif is something I use either for a focal point or in clusters as part of my drawing. Although motifs can form patterns, I tend to use the term for a particular design I like to use. I tend to use the word ‘fragment’ for that kind of motif that would fit into a grid (reticulum in Zentangle-ese).

As it’s Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d start off with roses, which led to other favourite flower motifs. Along with some, hopefully helpful, suggestions about creating volume in the drawings.

I use a lot of floral, botanical, organic motifs in my artwork, so I’m looking forward to sharing some of these with you.

Talking of sharing, here’s the link to today’s video!

Time for the creative soul – A Zentangle Inspired Bookmark WIP

Slowly, I’m learning about using colour digitally, and I love it! I’m beginning to understand how I can use layers effectively. Bringing dimension to my ‘flat’ pen drawings is so fascinating!

I realise now that I need to spend more time working with colour digitally. I’m finding getting that feeling of volume in my artwork is relatively easy. But, choosing colours isn’t my best skill for sure! So, once the process of layers is incorporated into my mental “muscle memory”, I need to learn more about how to choose colours.

I’ll get there. It may be that monochrome is the way to go for me. But only time will tell.

For now, I need a bit of a break from the computer as well as another mug of tea!

Pattern Exploration No.2, Day 2 | Stylised flower

More variations of stems as well as the view of the flower itself today. In today’s video, I talk through how to draw the flower and to add colour to enhance the sense of volume to the bloom.

It’s been so heart-warming to receive such kind, supportive and encouraging messages about my YouTube videos. It’s a really nice feeling, a warmth in my heart and soul, to hear that people are enjoying creating along with me, or being inspired to draw and create.

Here’s today’s video, in case you’d like to join me in drawing some pretty flowers too.

Pattern Exploration No. 2 | Day 1

Today marks the start of explorations around pattern 2, which is a lovely, stylised floral design.

In the video, I walk you through drawing a couple of the variations and my style of stems too.

Sketchbook Saturday

A quick look at the art I’ve created in the past week in a vlog.

Sketchbook Saturday | My Week in Art

Saturday morning is the time I look back on my art this week.

I’d like to say thank you to all who’ve subscribed to my little arty corner of YouTube, as well as those of you lovely people who have liked my videos and left such lovely comments. You are all very, very much appreciated.

Tomorrow, I will take a look back at the whole of Inktober Tangles 2021 in another video. And think about how to go forward now too.

Inktober Tangles 2021 | Day 27 “Trelina” by Eni Oken

I came across this tangle a goodly while ago. I tried to draw it, but without much success, like Fengle.

However, watching a video by Zen Linea, as well as having cracked Fengle meant I think I’ve successfully drawing Trelina, with some variations as well.

I realised, soon enough, that I wanted to keep the basic structure of Trelina, but focus on ‘channels’ that could be used to house other patterns. Indeed, the very first Trelina I drew was the one in the top left and I wanted a wider ‘channel’ to put a pattern in.

The bottom right version has a big nod towards Fengle. After all, if I’d not worked out how to draw Fengle, I doubt I would have managed to draw Trelina.

Inktober Tangles 2021 | Day 26 “DEX”

Dex is a grid-based tangle pattern by Zentangle Inc. It’s interesting to add variations to. Indeed, I’m sure I recognise some of the variations as other tangle patterns. I expect there’s going to be a lot of overlap.
