Colouring Page – 3 November 2022

This week’s colouring page is a typically ‘Angela’ entangled one; it’s just what wanted to flow out of my pen today. And that most probably has a lot to say about what’s going on in my subconscious today. I’m well out of sorts for sure. I think I know what is causing it, but, like the weather, it will pass along.

This week’s colouring page (colouring template) is a fun one. From time to time, I like to create a page like this – full of whimsy and cuteness and doodles and tangle patterns.

It’s perfect for trying out new colour combinations, new mediums, or new techniques as each image is self-contained yet part of the whole.

Also, it’s perfect if you only have a little time and struggle with leaving something partly finished. There are so many elements here that can be completed quite quickly.

It’s that time of the week again – a coloring template for the members of Angela Porter’s Coloring Books Fans Facebook group.

This week it’s a mandala. I always enjoy drawing mandalas, and this one was no exception to that statement.

Thursdays seem to come around so quickly, not that I’m complaining at all! But with each Thursday that comes around, I create a new template for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Books Fans Facebook group. It’s free to join the group and the weekly templates are free to members though some reasonable terms and conditions for use apply.

This week I chose to create a mandala. I do love a mandala! There is always something so soothing and relaxing about drawing and adding colour to them.

For this one, I kept to a simple palette – two bluey-greens, a pink, a purple and a yellow-orange. I really am trying to work with fairly limited palettes more often, and to focus on contrast in my art so it really has some volume and dimension.

I think I’m going to go and work on a hand-lettering project I started last night. After I’ve ordered some black felt for some slow stitching. And some other sewing supplies I think I may find useful too.

Thursdays come around quickly, or so it seems. And with Thursday comes a new colouring page (template) for members of Angela Porter’s Coloring Books Fans Facebook group. The group is free to join, and the templates are free to the members of the group.

This week, I indulged myself in creating a tile mandala kind of design. That central panel looks really awkward, but I suspect it has more to do with my colour choices than anything else! I’ll be interested to see how people tack that one. Ho hum.

Thursdays are fun days! I release a new colouring template for the members of the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans Facebook group, which is free to join.

This week, I chose a rather stylised, whimsical kind of floral theme. Big, bold motifs, with some smaller details and elements.

If you’re into adding tangle patterns to designs, this one will lend itself well, even though it’s geared towards being coloured.

In adding colour, I’ve taken the opportunity to try out various colour combinations, as well as get some shading practice in.

I drew the design with an 05 Uniball Unipin pen on acid-free cartridge paper. Colour was added digitally using Clip Studio Paint.

On Template Thursday, I don’t release a video on YouTube. But there’ll be a new video tomorrow for sure!

I absolutely love drawing Doodleworlds style colouring pages/colouring templates.

The cute critters, the whimsical world where landscapes have their own rules and birds can have ridiculously long legs and flowers can float without stems or leaves. Planets can be cute critters too. There are flowers, foliage, mushrooms, bottles, stars, moon stars, crystals, rocks, birds … well some of my favourite things to draw!

Oh, and a cupcake. Cake is always welcome, especially with a glacé cherry on top. And ice cream, though I think all the ice cream has been eaten by that happy bunch of critters in the bottom right, hence none of it in the picture! I think the grumpy one missed out on it.

I say this so often, but I really do believe that we all need a lot of whimsy in our lives as a break from the things going on in the news. I avoid the news as much as possible as it upsets and distresses me way too much. Just the headlines are enough for me. That also means more time to draw!

This was drawn with a fudenosuke pen on paper. Colour added digitally in Clip Studio Paint.

Each week during the pandemic I’ve drawn a colouring page for the members of Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

Creativity of any kind, including colouring, is a great way to take a break from life’s stresses and strains and to relax and de-stress. I absolutely love to see the creativity with which folks add colour to my colouring templates and bring them to life!

Oh, if you like this Doodleworlds style of template that I often draw, then I do have a colouring book available on Amazon called “Doodleworlds”. If you prefer a pdf file that you can download and print, then this is available from my Etsy shop.

This week’s colouring page / colouring template for Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group is full of whimsy.

I think the birds are busy using balloons to populate the twilight sky with stars and some hearts. I’m not quite sure what the tentacles are doing there, or what they may be attached to. But they may just be a reminder that Hallowe’en will be back, sooner than we think no doubt. Are those fish part of a fishy totem shoal? Or are they just floating/flying past and the pole is just a perch for the bird?

I always need some whimsy in my days, especially as the news of the world outside my inner world is always rather grim at the moment, or that’s how it seems. I think this is why so many of my drawings are whimsical these days. Partly. I think there’s something in me that has recognised that this is, perhaps, my main artistic voice, certainly when it comes to colouring pages. And perhaps my other forms of art too.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all. Fanciful and fun. Whimsical and witty. With a sprinkle of magic thrown in for good measure.

Here’s this week’s template, full of whimsy and smiles. I’ve combined some of my favourite things to draw – flowers, foliage, fish and fungi! This time, I have sky-fish swimming in a sky filled with happy bubbles above a garden. And why not? This is my world of whimsy after all.

Sky-fish. Who would’ve thought it? Well, apparently I did, and no doubt many, many others too.

This week’s colouring page for Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group is one of whimsical wonder and fun! From fishy totem poles to a mini invasion by Doodleworlds characters, magical mushrooms, beautiful butterflies, lovely hearts, shining stars and frolicking florals, there’s plenty here to make my heart smile. And that is something we all need to do.

As these worlds only exist in my imagination, and now on paper, anything goes. Colours can be whatever you like them to be. And today I wanted bright, happy, cheery colours to lift my heart and soul.

It’s lovely to create something that is happy and bright, peaceful and innocent. It’s a great way to escape from the news that so easily finds its way into daily life. Art is how I take a break from this, whether it’s drawing whimsical scenes like this one, practising my lettering skills, doing zentangle-ish kinds of explorations, or abstractly intuitive art.

I know that not everyone has the skills or confidence to draw these whimsical worlds, so it’s lovely I can create line art for others to bring to life with colour. In so doing I give others that chance to escape to my silly inner worlds for a while. And that is no bad thing, is it?
