Two drawings I did over the Christmas period using my new Sakura Micron PN pens.  These are different to the usual Micron pens as they have a solid, plastic nib, which is a lot more durable in use.

I’m rather heavy handed with pens, and as much as I love Sakura Microns, Uniball’s Unipins and Faber-Castell’s Pitt pens, their nibs don’t last as long with me as their ink supply does.  I end up chucking the pens way before the ink has run out.

Yes, I could use my Rotring Isographs, but the ink takes a while to dry and I tend to smudge my work.

Previously, I’ve found the Sakura Pigma Sensei in 0.4mm to works well for me, and the nibs are similar to the PN.

The big drawback at the moment to both the Sakura Pigma Sensei and the PN is I can’t order them here in the UK, I have to source these pens either from the USA or from Japan/Hong Kong, so it takes a long while for them to get to me, often with a high shipping fee.

The Sakura Micron PNs are definitely on my shopping list when I need more of them!  I’ll stick to the other brands for the finer line work that appears in my pen and ink drawings from time to time.

WIP 27 Dec 2017 Angela Porter

It’s WIP Wednesday once again over at the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group. This is my current work in progress. I think I’m in touch with my inner bohemian/hippy once again in my colour choices, or maybe I just need a break from all the Christmassy/Winter colour schemes.  Perhaps I just need some bright colour in my life at the moment.  I do know using bright, vibrant colours always makes me smile.

WIP Wednesday and a new book available in the Colorist App

It’s that day again – WIP Wednesday – in the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

So, here is my work in progress, an icy patterned mandala.

This mandala is one of ten templates available in my latest book in the Colorist App from Faction Apps,

I’m using the template as an opportunity to learn more about Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on my Microsoft Surface Book, in particular working with the different kind of layers and how I can add patterns to the coloured sections.  This mandala is going to be great for that as the sections are quite large.

Doodleworlds – a coloured template.

This is the finished Doodleworlds template that was started a couple or so days ago.

I needed a quiet day or two and colouring seemed to be the way to go, and it gave me a chance to work more with Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and my Microsoft Surface Pen and Surface Book.

WIP Wednesday

It’s WIP (work in progress) Wednesday over in the Angela Porter Coloring Books Fans facebook group.  This is one of my current ones.  It’s from my Doodleworlds book, available on Amazon, and a pdf version is available from my Etsy shop, Artwyrd.

I’ve been laid a tad low with some kind of cold, and I’m still not right today; it’s been  a week or so now.  So, my arty output has been curtailed somewhat, but it’s beginning to ramp up a tad now.

Colouring done using my Surface Pen using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on my Microsoft Surface Book.  I’m using various brushes for the design elements, but have used a gradient fill for the skies.

Christmas mandala

I enjoyed drawing and colouring the previous mandala so much, I thought I’d do another.  This was particularly helpful for me as I was rather emotionally drained yet emotional yesterday after doing a couple of anti-stigma talks in my role as a champion for Time to Change Wales, a campaign that aims to end the stigma and discrimination that surrounds mental illness.

I started this yesterday, but it’s taken me much of today to complete it.

Wednesdays are WIP Days over on the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

Today, as part of my December/Advent gifts, I created this Christmas themed mandala for them to colour in.

I used my Microsoft Surface pen to draw the mandala on my Microsoft Surface book in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro.  I then used the same tools to colour the mandala.

Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group challenge for December

This month, the challenge for the members of the facebook group Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans is a little different.  I’ve set them a challenge to use limited palettes of winter or Christmas or holiday colours to colour in any template they wish and to share their results.  I’m hoping for lots of sparkle and shine!
