Autumn Flow 1 and 2

Two teeny tiny little pieces of textile work.  The photo doesn’t really show the sheen on the mohair that has been used in the needle-felting on the black felt background.  They are approx 2″ square-ish.  Copper thread has been used to add the lines and shapes, along with copper, gold and red beads.

The colour reminds me of autumn, but I also think it may be how I seen passionate love too.  It has a wonderfully warm, deep, intense colour to it that I find quite irresistible, not a colour I would have usually loved.  I think this could be becoming my favourite colour!

The lines remind me of contour lines on an OS Map.  I feel a new source of inspiration for art coming on… maps and satellite and aerial imagery perhaps.  I know my fingers have been fair twitching for paper and pens and inks and paints and pencils to use my textile work as an inspiration for other forms of art, so my textile work may become an inspiration for me too. How weird is that?

These may be for sale on Etsy…I’ll have to decide if I can part with them!

Growing Love

4″ x 3″.  Rotring pens, watercolours, metallic gold paint and pens on Bristol Board.

Just playing really with the Bristol Board; it’s very white and very smooth and will take a bit of a colour wash.  The design is very much influenced by early Celtic art and prehistoric rock art, though the hearts have crept in unconsciously.  In fact, most of my art is created while in a meditative kind of state, the lines, shapes, textures and colours flow from my unconscious, from my inner being.  Perhaps the hearts represent the self-love starting to bloom within me, or maybe the artwork symbolises the start of love being sent out and shared.  I’m sticking with the title ‘Growing Love’ for now.

Spiral Dreams

3″x9″ in size.  Technical drawing pens, Inktense and Graphitint pencils with water washes, metallic gold watercolour paint, and white Sakura Souffle pen on brown paper.

Spirals and swirls make an appearance again … this time symbolising the rather spiral paths I’m finding I’m travelling as I work to unravel and heal the wounds of the heart from the past.  The colours are rather warm, earthy, and that is a good thing I think.
