Sneak peek at this week’s coloring template

Over the past few days, I’ve been creating YouTube tutorials on drawing my style of whimsical things – fish, flowers, circles filled with patterns, fungi, and leaves. So, I thought I’d use some of these for this week’s template. And for some reason, I wanted to add a fishy totem pole, or three maybe.

Whimsical things do make me smile. And with whimsical, imaginative kinds of line art, it gives permission to use any colours that seem fun. I add colour digitally, and the colours are often vibrant and cheerful when I add them to such cute drawings.

Of course, the drawing has to be completed, but you can watch me draw this section by clicking on this link. Maybe even draw along or create your own version!

As far as I am concerned, there’s never enough whimsy in life. This kind of art lets me escape into a cute world of my own making and, at the same time, take a break from the sad, bad, heartbreaking news that can flood in from all directions. Art is something I do have some control over and, for a while, I can imagine that I’m journeying in a world that has none of our earthly problems.

Template Thursyay!

Thursday is the day I gift a colouring template to the members of Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans Facebook group. I know that not everyone uses Facebook, so I am working up the oompf to sort out a mailing list, so please bear with me while I do that.

This week, it’s a right feast of funky fungi, with some flowers and foliage thrown in for good measure. As far as I’m concerned, in my inner whimsical universe, all fungi are funkily coloured! And I had a lot of fun working with colour in this one, as well as a new brush or two in Clip Studio Paint.

Today’s Pattern Exploration Video

In today’s drawing tutorial video on YouTube, I take a look at Ansu by Lori Manoogian CZT. It’s a rather versatile tangle pattern that makes lovely flowers and foliage for sure.

WIP Wednesday – This week’s coloring page

I spent some lovely time this morning starting to draw this week’s coloring template. I decided to edit some oopsies and add some colour to the part I drew in today’s video.

It was fun to use a different kind of digital brush than I usually do to add colour. There’s a lot more texture that is a little like watercolour. I definitely need to spend more time with these brushes, and others, to understand them though.

Still, after a late breakfast, actually lunch as it’s now midday, I’ll finish drawing the template.

Template Thursday!

Ooh, I do love a mandala! And a flowery one is just the ticket for this week. Things botanical have been a bit of a theme for me this week, so it’s natural they’d find their way into this week’s colouring page/template for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

I kept to a fairly limited palette this week, and that really does help me produce coloured art I feel happy with. And this colour palette does make me smile.

Cheery colours for a grey and damp day.

This week’s coloring page/template for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

I used variations of the Zentangle tangle patterns Ginili, Gingo and Fragment D5, plus the little seeds/stones.

Not only did I use a limited number of patterns, but I’ve also used a limited colour palette too. That’s what I seem to do best with when it comes to colour.

As it’s grey and damp and a bit miserable out in the world here in the Valleys of South Wales, UK, warm, bright colours are very much needed. They serve as a reminder that spring is almost upon us!

Template Thursday! 10 Feb 2022

Another Thursday, another colouring template (or colouring page) for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans Facebook group.

It’s another Doodleworlds meets Zentangle/Entangled kind of mashup. I have so much fun drawing these at the moment. I really do need a good dose of whimsy and cuteness in my arty life at this time. This fills the bill for sure.

I’ve not had much time today to do a lot of colouring. So, I’ve just added some flat colours. Should I get around to colouring this one in my usual way, I’ll post the results.

I had planned to do a page with two illustrations, each slightly smaller than A5 in size. That just didn’t happen. Yesterday and today have had some unexpected events, all good. So fast and dirty colouring was just the ticket.

I have been drawing this template for YouTube. Today’s instalment is below.

Template Thursyay!

Each week during the pandemic, I’ve created a colouring template or (colouring page if you prefer ;-)) for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans Facebook group members.

This week’s template is an entangled Zentangle meets Doodleworlds mash-up! I had a lot of fun drawing this one. Doodleworlds characters always have me smiling. Mind you, drawing intricate designs always makes me smile too!

Template Thursday…on a Wednesday? Nope, just a sneak peek!

It’s quite a bit sneak peek as it’s the whole template, with some colour added!

Abstract. Entangled. Zentangle Inspired Art. Putting into practice some of the fragments that have evolved during the Fragments of Your Imagination Challenge hosted by the 7F5RChallenge facebook group.

The colouring template won’t be available itself until tomorrow – to the members of the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group.

Template Thursday…On a Wednesday?

Wednesday is the day I design this week’s template for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Book Fans facebook group and give a sneak peek at what tomorrow will bring!

This week I really felt the need to draw a mandala, so I did! It’s a very abstract kind of design, and I’ve chosen to use terracotta as a background for my version. So, to go with terracotta and other warm, earthy tones, I had to pop in blues and teals. I wonder how others will add colour to this one.

Fragments of Your Imagination Challenge 2022, Day 19

Today’s fragment is called ‘An Ode to Triangles’. I didn’t quite have many ideas what I could do with this one.

I quickly realised I preferred to leave the little triangles in the corners out. Between following ideas I got as I was drawing and mis-strokes of the pen, I eventually got a variation I liked. A bit too much as I became focused on just that variation.

But just as I was about to stop the recording, another idea came to me and I went with that on the smaller piece of paper.

If you’d like to see today’s coddiwompling exploration of this fragment, click on this link to view the video.

Busy morning with art!

I’m absolutely exhausted as I type this. I didn’t have much sleep last night and I’ve been awake since before 4am, mostly drawing. I’m hoping a delivery arrives soon so I can get a couple of hours of sleep before getting back to work. I also hope my blog today makes some kind of sense.

Fragments of Your Imagination Challenge – Dealys by Debbie New CZT

Today is day 12 of this challenge and the tangle pattern fragment is ‘Dealys’ by Debbie New CZT. I have a link to her blog in the side bar.

This is an unfamiliar tangle to me. So it took me a little while to work out how best to create variations. My exhaustion interfered with this, however. Once I’ve slept some, I may return to it.

Here’s the link to today’s YouTube video showing the drawing of this page of variations.

Template Thursday on a Wednesday?

The second image at the top of today’s blog is the customary sneak peek at tomorrow’s coloring template for the Angela Porter’s Coloring Books Fans facebook group.

As I drew this in the wee small hours of this morning, sleep deprived, I think I’ve done a good enough job. It’s a Doodleworlds style illustration, full of whimsy and cuteness. It made me smile as I drew it. Adding colour has improved my perception of the drawing too.
